Oh my, we have started out with some of our favorites! In kindergarten, the children will be analyzing various alphabet books. Some not to miss are The Z was Zapped, Alphabet Under Construction, and LMNO Peas. First grade is underway with the truly fun author, Chris Van Dusen. If I Built a Car and If I Built a House are two of his most popular reads. They both open the student's minds to thinking "outside the box" and the author even declares "think big" on the back of one of his books. That's my kind of author! Second graders are beginning with Bernard Waber books, author of the well known Lyle the Crocodile series. These imaginative adventure stories are sure to please everyone! We can't get enough of chapter books in 3rd grade. We are starting with another imaginative and crazy story about a mixed up school, Sideways Stories From Wayside School. This one is sure to make the children laugh and think twice! As always, it doesn't matter what grade level or book we are reading, the children are encouraged to think deeply and prompted to discuss, question, summarize, analyze, think critically and reflect on the story. We do this in multiple ways and learn from each other in all of our groups. I hope your child loves our "think big" groups as much as I do!
